Old Loglan position: /y/ was buffer.

Current Institute Loglan position: there are two dialects, the "buffered"
using /y/ as buffer and /iy/ as hyphen, and the "unbuffered", using no buffer
and /y/ as hyphen.

Lojban position: /y/ is hyphen, any short unused vowel such as [I] is buffer.
