new subscribers - let us hear from you

In the last month and a half, the membership of Lojban List has grown some
50%, with several new people per week being added. I am presuming that most
of you found out about Lojban from Veijo Vilva's WWW page, and hence you
already know something about Lojban - thus I have not sent any electronic
files to new subscribers as I used to do. If you have not read the
introductory brochure, the Diagrammed Summary of Lojban Examples, the Lojban
Minilesson, the essay on linguistics applications of Lojban, the essay on
the dispute with The Loglan Institute, our order form, or the index of the ftp
site materials, and would like any of these, please send me email.

I also think that most of us on the list would like to hear from you, why you
are interested in Lojban, and of course any questions you have.

If you are interested in receiving our newsletter and/or printed copies
of our introductory material, I need to have your snail-mail address.
We ask $5 for US/Canada, $6 for other countries for the intro package, but
thsi is a voluntary amount, and we send to all people who request the intro
package whether or not you pay for it. Other materials are available per
our order form, but for the most part require pre-payment, including
subscriptions to our (nominally, but not yet actually) quarterly journal,
"ju'i lobypli" (JL). The newsletter "le lojbo karni" (LK), ashortened version
of the news-section of JL, with occasionally other texts

generally comes out within a month of JL (though not this time, per my just-
posted message on LK18/19) is also sent to anyone who requests a subscription,
with a requested voluntary contribution of around $1.20-$1.50 per issue.

I hope a large portion of you new peopl are interested in learning and using
Lojban. My impression as the email addresses have gone by is that some
40% of of new list members are not from the US, and we especially value the
insights of Lojbanists who are native speakers of non-English tongues (and
we often learn a lot from non-American English natives, too!).

Welcome to the Lojban community. Let us know what we can do for you!
