This is true in English, too.  "Wane" *does* mean decrease.  I you want
to distinguish the usages in "Due to waning interest, the group no longer
discusses fuzzy logic" vs. "The moon was waning", you have to do "glico
lujvo", just like you did "wane (in the lunar sense)".

No reason this should be particularly different for Lojban.
