Since John has invoked me, perhaps I'll wade in to the discussion (I have
up to now been noticing it as it flew by, but not been willing to exert
the effort to catch it or get aboard.

Indeed I have. The first sentence is indeed inherently true, and if I read
it in a story I will interpret it as this general claim, and not suppose
that you are telling me anything about a specific man or woman.
