at least for austrian, or viennese, i would explain this example as
transformation of a ("correct") dialectal expression (which has a
form of 'taete' instead of 'w"urde') into standard language, where
it is incorrect.
btw, the austrian/bavarian dialects have (preserved ?) a conditional form
(schlafat = would sleep, slept), which does not exist in high german.
