Personal to John Cowan
(John, mail to you is bouncing, and the daemon is claiming your site doesn't
exist. I am confused. Do you know of any changes on your end?)
To John Cowan respond I thus:
#> Incidentally, I've
#> received no comment on my paper, which strikes me as strange.
#Detailed comments in progress.
Looking forward to seeing it.
#> Also, some
#> of the papers you have in the ftp directory haven't done the Jimbob rounds
#> as normally occurs; will they?
#I think you were off-net at the time; I sent them all out, I believe.
I don't recall being off-net for any significant length of time recently
(unless I went incommunicado for the exam period, but I was still receiving
mail); I certainly don't recall seeing anything like the text structure
paper. Btw, I think a more extended discussion of Aktionsarten in the
Abstraction paper would be a good thing, since the readers are unlikely
to get the info elsewhere unless they are linguists. Would you like me to
take care of it? God knows when I'll get time, but regurgitating my lecture
notes and tracing a couple of articles shouldn't be that hard. Btw, any
idea where you people got "process" as an Aktionsart from? None of the few
authors I'm aware of uses "process" to mean what Dowty and Vendler call
"accomplishment".
