Jimc's response points out another way, probably better than the tanru-
based ways (I can read both Cowan's and Ivan's versions with unintended
interpretations rather too easily to be happy with them).  I would
indeed use"bancu" (preferring it to "ragve", but the latter might also
work directly substituted in the following)

mi catlu le bancu be le canko
or
mi catlu le canko bancu

neither of which gives any suggestion that the looker and the lookee
are passing through the window or on the same side of the
window, or any variation thereupon.

Now

lenu mi catlu cu pagre le canko
or
lenu mi catlu [cu] jaipa'o canko

strike me as particularly Lojbanic means of expressing the idea.

And I'll shut up before my mind goes off in even stranger variations.
